Edition + Condition: First trade edition (first printing). A very good copy (some stains to the covers and some wear to the silver spine stamping) in a fine dust jacket. This is one of a series of books Crews inscribed to his friend and collector Tom Garner, explaining the dedications or epigraphs in his books. This book begins with a quote from Karl Wallenda, a high-wire artist and founder of the Flying Wallendas troupe. The inscription reads, "Tom; [Karl Wallenda] went off a wire thirty feet in the air onto a concrete floor under the big top. A man who knew what a proper death was. All best, bud, Harry Crews."
