Original Walt Disney Productions Comic Art, 1947
Merry Menagerie Original Daily Cartoon Art
Publication: (N.-pl.): Walt Disney Productions, distributed by King Features Syndicate, 1947.
Notes: The original art from the April 9, 1947, Walt Disney newspaper comic Merry Menagerie, a one-panel cartoon featuring animals. The cartoon is credited to Walt Disney, but it was actually drawn by Bob Grant, an employee of Walt Disney Productions.
This cartoon features two newly hatched chicks with the caption, "I know how we got OUT, all right..but what stumps me is how we got IN!" This artwork is accompanied by a typed letter, signed, from Frank Reilly, who headed up the Disney books and comics section for many years. A fan wrote in to say that this comic was her favorite and Reilly wrote back sending the original artwork for it.
Artwork measures 6 by 6-3/4 inches on a sheet of 8-1/2 by 12-inch cardstock. It is drawn in blue and black pencil with black ink outlines, with a pasted-on printed title and credits.
Edition + Condition: A very good or better example. Letter also very good, with minor edge wear.
