Scarce Irish Novel, Larry McMurtry's Copy

The Singing-Men at Cashel

Notes: The Irish poet's second novel, a story of a woman looking for love and happiness in the Celtic era. Like Clarke' first novel, The Bright Temptation, this book was banned in Ireland under the Censorship of Literature Act (per Oxford Dictionary of National Biography).

382, [2] pages.

Edition + Condition: First edition (states "first published..." on the copyright page). A very good copy in a good to very good dust jacket. There is a shallow chip missing from the top of the spine, several closed tears, and some foxing to the back panel. Nevertheless, this is an uncommon book in a dust jacket. This copy belonged to the Pulitzer Prize- and Academy Award-winning Texas writer Larry McMurtry, with his distinctive stirrup bookplate on on the front pastedown.

Publication: London: George Allen & Unwin, 1936.
