With the Scarce "Standard American" Essay
Geek Love
Publication: New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1989. First Edition.
Notes: A novel about a family of circus geeks by a late, beloved Portland writer.
Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing). A fine copy in a fine dust jacket. Review copy, with a publisher's slip addressed to a magazine editor; a three-color press release, and the very scarce brochure, "Katherine Dunn author of Geek Love in Her Own Words", with a six-panel autobiographical essay. This essay is the origin of Dunn's widely repeated quote, "My background is standard American blue collar of the itchy-footed variety."
The bright orange spine of this book's dust jacket almost always fades. This copy was kept in a storage locker since the early 1990s and is as bright as the day it was first sold.
