Notes: Wolfe looks at American architecture.

143 pages.

Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing stated). A near fine copy (some discoloration of the endpapers as usual from the binding glue) in a slightly spine faded, else near fine jacket. This copy is inscribed in the month of publication by Wolfe to the San Francisco restaurateurs Ed and Mary Etta Moose, with whom he was friends for decades. A 1996 New York Times article (April 10) about the Mooses' restaurants reported, "Some specialties aren't on the menu. When in town, the author Tom Wolfe orders Day Boat Scallops, caught daily and rushed back to Moose's kitchen."

The full-page inscription reads, "For Ed and Mary Etta with fond thanks for all the wonderful and delicious hours in your home from Tom Wolfe. October 22, 1981." Uncommon with such a good inscription.

Publication: New York: Farrar Straus Giroux, 1981.
