Signed by Cactus Jack
John Nance Garner Cartoons
Publication: [Austin, TX]: Texas Memorial Museum, 1958. First Edition.
Notes: An inscribed book of editorial cartoons about Cactus Jack, the Texas Democrat who served as Speaker of the House and then as Vice President for eight years under Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Garner donated his collection of more than 300 original editorial cartoons that featured him as the subject to the Texas Memorial Museum, and this book celebrates that donation and his 90th birthday.
207 pages.
Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing). A very good copy with spots and stains on the rear endpapers, including a surface scar where something taped there was removed. This copy is inscribed (possibly to James Andrew Dodd, a photographer whose ownership stamp appears at the back of the book) and signed by John Nance Garner. This copy is also signed by A. Garland Adair, who contributed the introduction. This book is bound in illustrated cloth-covered boards and was not issued in a dust jacket. Copies signed by the former Vice President are uncommon.
