Stephen Jay Gould's Copy of a Punctuated Equilibria Source
Systematics and Evolution of Phacops rana (Green, 1832) and Phacops iowensis Delo, 1935 (Trilobita) from the Middle Devonian of North America
Publication: New York: American Museum of Natural History, 1972. First Edition.
Notes: Stephen Jay Gould's personal copy of a key source used as evidence in Eldredge and Gould's "Punctuated Equilibria", a 1972 paper on evolution that remains one of the most polarizing proposals in the field. The paper devotes four pages to Phacops rana (Green) as supporting evidence for Eldredge and Gould's hypothesis.
"Systematics..." was published as a stand-alone paper (Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History, vol. 147, article 2, pp. 47–113; NB: In "Punctuated Equilibria" this is incorrectly cited as vol. 47 (sic, 147)). 7-3/4 by 10-5/8 inches.
Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing). A very good copy in blue printed wrappers. Gould's ownership signature, "S. Gould" is on the front cover. An excellent association copy.
