Notes: An engraved map of the Chinese empire by the French geographer A. H. Brué, with wide margins and period outline color.
This map includes all of modern-day China, showing Tibet in the west, Mongolia at the north, Korea and Manchuria to the east, and the edges of India and Burma to the south. 20 by 14-1/4 inches on a much larger sheet. Dated 1821 in the plate and published in his Atlas Universel. This is one of Brué's Cartes Encyprotype, the cartographer's unique branding for his engraved maps. As such, it has his blindstamp authentication emblem to the left of the cartouche.
Edition + Condition: Very good. Center fold strengthened on the verso (back) at the top and bottom with paper tape. A small piece is missing from one corner, inches away from any part of the printed map.
