"The worst book I have ever written"
B Is for Beer
Publication: New York: Ecco, 2009. First Edition.
Notes: A very nicely inscribed first edition of this goofy book about beer by the author of Another Roadside Attractions and other novels. The first chapter was written for the Seattle Post Intelligencer newspaper (now an online only publication) while Robbins was the writer in residence at the paper.
125 pages. 5-3/4 by 8-1/4 inches.
SOURCE: Abebooks. I recently cataloged another signed copy of this book and while checking prices online I saw this one. Really good inscriptions from Tom Robbins are not common and if you are going to add an otherwise minor book to your collection, why not have the author's own opinion about it. Robbins is also known to be a flirt, as this inscription shows. I hope he comes off as charming in person and not as a dirty old man.
Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing with a numberline ending in 1). A fine copy in illustrated paper over boards; no dust jacket, as issued. While Tom Robbins books with funny inscriptions are not rare, this one, written on the inside front cover, is particularly good: "Dear Suzanne—This is the worst book I have ever written. But you are devastatingly sexy. Love Tom Robbins."
