Note from a New Yorker Writer
Humorous Autograph Postcard Signed
Publication: Sarasota, FL: 1974.
Notes: A borderline inappropriate handwritten postcard from the New Yorker writer to his friend, the film agent and studio executive, Harvey Orkin (1918–1975). The postcard image is a color photograph of a young woman coming out of her bathing suit at the beach. Perelman's note, written during the Arab oil embargo, reads as follows:
"Sarasota, Fla. Feb 27. Harve, As you see from the reverse, we have very little gas but lots of silicone. Isn't it surprising what 3 weeks of fresh air and rest have done for Lilly Hellman? The house looks like the set for SEVEN KEYS to BALDPATE and so does the staff—an albino negress, a Mennonite cleaning woman, and a part-time Armenian cook (he's only Armenian part of the time). Everybody here is 83 years old and all the dialogue is about condominiums—condoms for short. Trusting you are getting plenty, Love, Sid."
The postcard is addressed to Orkin at Columbia Pictures in New York. Today, Perelman wrote for the New Yorker magazine for many years and he also wrote screenplays, including the Oscar-winning adaptation of Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days.
