Inscribed, Correcting the Title
Woman [The Woman Thing]
Publication: Paris: Olympia Press, 1965. Second Edition.
Notes: This is a nicely inscribed copy of a reprint of the 1958 novel, "The Woman Thing." It is decidely more pornographic and less literary than other books Iris Owens wrote as Harriet Daimler for the Olympia Press.
After leaving the Paris expatriate community, Owen wrote two novels under her own name, one of which was reissued by the New York Review of Books. She kept a low profile and signed books are quite scarce.
Issued as no. 61 in the Traveller's Companion series. This is item 136.3 in Kearney's bibliography, The Paris Olympia Press, where he records it as "not seen."
Edition + Condition: Second edition. A very good copy in green wrappers, as issued. The spine is cracked near the bottom; there is glue residue from an old price sticker on the front cover; and there is light shelfwear tot he edges. Owens inscribed this copy incorporating the word "woman" on the title page, restoring her original title for the novel: "THE [Woman] THING | Wrong title right text. Iris Owens aka Harriet Daimler." A nice inscription in a book seldom found signed.
