The Further Inquiry [Trade + Proof + Blad]

Publication: New York: Viking Press, 1990. First Edition.

Notes: A nice group of copies of this book about Kesey's cross-country trip in the old bus nicknamed "Further" and immortalized in Tom Wolfe's book, The Electric Kool-aid Acid Test. In this book, Kesey presents the history of his Merry Pranksters as a trial transcript, including testimony from people who had died in the interim. Heavily illustrated with photos in black-and-white and color photographs. The books are:

1. The first edition, fine in a fine jacket, with an inscription "For Bruce Ken Kesey 1992", filling the full front free endpaper.

2. A proof in salmon-colored wrappers, fine and signed by Kesey. A press photo is laid in as is a certificate of authenticity from Kay-Z productions, run by Kesey's son Zane.

3. A blad (a color proof with sample pages). 8 pages in a proof dust jacket, with a barcode with just zeroes. The blad jacket is price-clipped, suggesting that the price may have changed before publication. I also noticed that the quote on the rear flap is attributed to Jerry Garcia, while in the finished book it is credited to Bob Weir.

Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing, with a numberline ending in 1). The three books are laid into a custom black-cloth clamshell box, which has significant fading.
