Posthumously Published Lorca

Poemas póstumos / Canciones musicales / Diván del Tamarít

Publication: México [Mexico City]: Ediciones Mexicanas, 1945. First Edition.

Notes: A collection of seventeen previously unpublished "posthumous" poems; the cycle Diván del Tamarit, which was published in the Revista Hispánica Moderna in 1940 (the present edition is their first appearance in a book); and the Canciones Musicales, which may be first published here. Lorca let the Mexican diplomat Genaro Estrada copy these poems, which explains how they were first published in Mexico. Estrada's fair copy was somewhat hard to read and a word is omitted from the first poem because it was illegible.

The book is illustrated with four Surrealistic drawings by the Spanish artist Gregorio (Gori) Múñoz Montoro. Múñoz went into exile at the end of the Spanish Civil War and became a movie production designer in Argentina.

104, [6] pages.

Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing). A very good copy in the publisher's original wrappers with a slightly chipped original glassine cover (removable). A nice copy of this scarce first publication of several dozen Lorca poems.
