Latin American Masterwork, Signed by Sabato
Sobre héroes y tumbas
Publication: Buenos Aires, Argentina: Compañía General Fabril Editora, 1961. First Edition.
Notes: An inscribed first edition of one of the defining Latin American novels of the 20th century, later translated as Of Heroes and Tombs.
This complex narrative established Sabato as a major figure in Argentine literature, in which he anticipates Gabriel García-Márquez's Chronicle of a Death Foretold by recounting in the first chapter the murder-suicide that should be the climax of the plot. The novel also includes a notorious section about a secret society of the blind.
417 pages.
Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing, with the date 22 de diciembre de 1961 on the colophon). A very good copy in a very good dust jacket with a few edge tears. Small remnant of a bookstore ticket on the front free endpaper. Inscribed by Sabato: "a Homero Luis R___, reiterando leán de mis libros, con s___. E. Sabato."
