Griggs presents a history of the Mesilla Valley, from prehistoric times through the Mexican-American War and the Civil War periods. The work reprints and transcribes official documents, presents firsthand accounts by other writers, and concludes with an appendix on Billy the Kid, including the text of a court document ordering his execution.

Edition + Condition: First edition, first printing. Original printed wrappers bound in distinctive textured outer wrappers with embossed title (possibly a presentation binding). Once owned by Edith C. Lane with her signature on the cover and two autograph postcards signed by Griggs to Lane. The outer wrapper has a 2-inch spine crack; otherwise very good condition.
