Signed Fluxus Artists Book, 20/50
The Wisdom of the Money for Food Lady
Publication: (N.-pl.): Money for Food Press, 1978. First Edition.
Notes: First edition of this conceptual artists' book produced during a Franklin Furnace performance in March 1978, numbered 20 of 50 copies, signed by both Hendricks and Buczak.
This printed folder enclosing found objects and a printed sheet was created by Geoffrey Hendricks and Brian Buczak for their Money For Food Press, which they established in 1977 at their Greenwich Street home as a vehicle for Fluxus-inspired artist publications. The work incorporates multiple forms of communication - American Sign Language fingerspelling, Chinese characters, a transparency, a 35mm slide, and a torn piece of a contact sheet - reflecting the press's intersection with New York's avant-garde art movements, including Fluxus and Ray Johnson's mail art movement.
9-1/2 by 11-3/4-inch black paper folder with two inside pockets.
Edition + Condition: Near fine; contents worn as issued. In a plastic sleeve sealed with clear tape, possibly original.
