Pretty Ex-Library Copy

The Hombre from Sonora

Publication: New York: Lenox Hill Press, 1971. First Edition.

Notes: A pretty solid ex-library copy of Willeford's only Western novel, published pseudonymously by Lenox Hill (a Crown division) to avoid competing with his simultaneously released Cockfighter.

According to bibliographer Don Herron, the pseudonym was used because Crown wanted to avoid publishing two Willeford titles in the same year. onym.

192 pages.

Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing). A fair copy in Very Good dust jacket. Green cloth binding, with endpapers glued to the pastedowns to cover library markings. Library stamp on title page and scattered notations present. The copyright page shows a number "4" (a marking appearing on all known first printings of this title). No established priority between green and orange binding variants. This copy has a library accession date of August 1971; the first newspaper mentions appear in late July.
