Notes: A collection of poems by the author of Grendel, here in three variants assembled by the collector Tom Garner and housed in his distinctive style of clamshell box. The three variants are:

1) The publisher's copy, so designated on the colophon, bound in full black leather like the lettered issue. This copy is signed by Gardner on the colophon and additionally inscribed, "To Herb [Yellin], with thanks & love John Gardner";
2) Copy 234 of 300 numbered copies, bound in quarter cloth over patterned paper-covered boards and signed by Gardern on the colophon page;
3) A copy bound like the numbered copies but without the "This is number..." statement on the colophon. Perhaps these were review or contributor copies. Signed by Gardner on the colophon.

Edition + Condition: First editions. The publisher's copy is fine but for a tiny bit of spotting to the fore-edge; the numbered copy is fine but for a quarter-inch stain on the fore-edge; the unnumbered copy is fine. The clamshell box is near fine.
