The Good Old Boys
Publication: Fort Worth, TX: Texas Christian University Press, 1986. First Edition Thus.
Notes: A reissue of a Hewey Calloway novel. Kelton might be the only writer of Westerns who is both sold in drugstore mass market paperbacks and in hardcovers put out by a scholarly university press.
Published as book number one in the Texas Tradition series. This book was made into a TV movie by Tommy Lee Jones, who wrote the teleplay and starred opposite Frances McDormand, with Sissy Spacek and Sam Shepard in supporting roles.
Edition + Condition: First edition of the TCU reprint, hardcover issue (there is a much more common paperback, too). Bottom of boards worn, thus very good in a very good jacket with light fading to the front panel and minor wear to the corners. This copy is inscribed to a Texas collector, "For Tom Garner—all best wishes—Elmer Kelton. 3/30/93."
