Essential Latina Feminism

Esta puente, mi espalda: Voces de mujeres tercermundistas en los Estados Unidos

Publication: San Francisco: Ism Press, 1988. First Edition.

Notes: An adaptation and Spanish translation of the groundbreaking book, This Bridge Called My Back, which sought to redefine feminism to account for women of color. "Este puente", which employs an archaic feminine form of the typically masculine noun for bridge, puente, reorganizes the essays in the original English-language version, drops some pieces, and adds others by Latina writers.

By the time this book was published, the 1981 original had sold more than 40,000 copies, making it one of the bestselling works in its genre. According to Google scholar, This Bridge Called My Back has been cited nearly 10,000 times in the academic literature.

The translations were done by the novelist Ana Castillo and Norma Alarcón, a professor at UC Berkeley and the founder of Third Woman Press.

[20], 281, [3] pages.

Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing, with no indication of later printings). A very good to near fine copy, with minor wear to the wrapper edges. This is the paperback issue; there was also a hardcover issue published at the same time. Both are quite uncommon. This copy has the ownership signature of a professor of LGBTQ studies.
