Notes: The legendary asbestos Firestarter, one of just 26 lettered copies of one of the most sought-after of all Stephen King books. This was the very first King limited edition, and it hasn't really been surpassed for elegance and simplicity. The binding is an aluminum-coated asbestos cloth with a red cover label. The cloth shines and is very hard to photograph.

There were 26 lettered copies in this binding signed by Stephen King on July 8, 1980.

Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing, lettered issue). A fine, bright, tight copy. Letter N of 26, signed by King. This copy includes the seldom-seen original binding description on Phantasia letterhead, "This edition of FIRESTARTER is limited to twenty-six lettered copies and has been bound in a special aluminum coated asbestos cloth." The cloth is unbelievably shiny.

Provenance: Barry Levin to James Strand (1982, $1500). This copy was stolen in August 2023 after Strand died; the FBI recovered it from a storage unit in Oregon City and returned it to the Strand family.
