The inscription, on the front free endpaper, reads, "This copy of Swamp Foetus is illustrated with six self-portraits based on my experience and state of mind at the time I wrote the stories with which they are juxtaposed. Poppy Z. Brite. New Orleans, LA. August 18, 1995." A unique copy.
