Signed Tour Issue of the Original Sin City

Sin City [Tour Issue]

Publication: Milwaikie (sic, Milwaukie), OR: Dark Horse Comics, 1992. First edition, wrappers issue.

Notes: A signed first edition of the original graphic novel introducing Sin City, in the paper slipcase available only during Miller's book tour in 1993.

This book is now commonly called The Hard Goodbye to distinguish it from the seven-book Sin City series as a whole.

When Miller began writing and drawing the comics collected here, he had already re-invented the Daredevil and Bat-man superhero series. In this book, his drawing mostly depends upon negative space. "The high contrast combined with a more abstract, geometric, and less realistic style to create a pure noir world... with a kind of inverted morality. The villains are often the moral arbiters of society... while the heroes operate at the fringes."—Cambridge History of the Graphic Novel.

This book was issued simultaneously in a signed and numbered hardcover and this trade paperback graphic novel format.

Collects stories from Dark Horse Presents (1986) #51-62 and Dark Horse Presents Special (1991). Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller co-directed a live-action film based on this and several other books in the Sin City series.

Edition + Condition: First edition (stated). A near fine copy in wrappers with a vertical ink break on the back cover along the spine and minor corner wear. The slipcase is very good, with some bumping and surface wear. This copy is inscribed on the half-title page, "To Pete—Stay tough—Frank Miller. 1-16-93."

Signed first printing copies of this key graphic novel are uncommon; copies in the tour slipcase are scarce. The book went into a second printing during the tour and those copies are also found in the tour sleeves.
