Notes: The signed, limited edition of this novel about a rabid Saint Bernard on a killing spree, issued in an edition of 750 numbered and 26 lettered copies.

This copy is out of series (it's not numbered) and lacks the slipcase. While that's usually a bad thing, it's not in this case.

Edition + Condition: First edition (signed, numbered issue). A near fine copy with minor corner wear. In a chipped and scuffed clear acetate jacket.

What makes this copy great is that it is a true presentation copy, inscribed by King, and given to the recipient. This copy is signed on the limitation page, but King smudged the signature. Either he kept the book or the publisher returned it to him, probably without the slipcase (they were expensive to make). The next year, one of his secretaries left and he gave her this book as a parting gift. It was the least he could do (really! It was a leftover book that couldn't be sold, and he probably wanted the shelf space).

King inscribed this with the sort of inscription that an employer couldn't write today, even though it was clearly meant in all good humor: "For Linda ___ — Thanks for pounding my Wang every weekday since February. Steve King. 11/17/82."

Accompanying this book is a photocopy of a letter of recommendation from King to Linda, which explains the inscription, "Her duties have included the use of word processing equipment (Wang System 5), typing manuscripts..."
