Notes: The scarcest of the Northwestern California native language books. It is based on field work with Isaac Duncan, one of the few remaining native speakers, then living near Petrolia, in Humboldt County, near the mouth of the Mattole River in far northwestern California.
The author of the book, Li Fang-Kuei, was a Chinese immigrant who studied linguistics. This book was his dissertation. During his long career, Li taught at Yale, Harvard, the University of Washington, and the University of Hawaii.

Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing). A very good copy in wrappers (paperback) with tape repair at the base of the spine; a faint stain on the back cover, affecting the last few leaves; and penciled annotations on 25 pages.
