Edition + Condition: First edition (stated first printing). A near fine copy in a very good dust jacket with light shelfwear and fading to the orange ink on the spine. This copy appears to have been a presentation copy, inscribed, "To Susan Black, with warm regards and admiration. Lillian Ross." Susan Black, later Susan Sheehan, was a staff writer at the New Yorker from 1961. She won a Pulitzer Prize for nonfiction in 1983.
It appears that Ross wrote Sheehan's initials at the time, "SMB," in the upper right corner of the front free endpaper, suggesting this copy was set aside for Black. If so, that makes this one of a small number of presentation copies of this novel.
