Dark Carnival [Gauntlet Press Proof]

Notes: The first republication of Bradbury's first book since it was put out by Arkham House in 1947. Bradbury rewrote and revised about half of these stories for his book The October Country, but otherwise his first book and the original versions of the October Country stories remained out of print until this limited edition reissue.

For this edition, edited by Donn Albright, spelling errors were corrected, but the text was kept intact. In addition, four other stories from the same era were added. Each story is prefaced by a reproduction of the magazine cover where it originally appeared. At the back of the book are 53 pages of facsimiles of letters and typescripts related to Dark Carnival, all of which are published here for the first time. This edition also includes a history of Dark Carnival by Jon Eller, an introduction by Bradbury, and an afterword by Clive Barker.

This is one of a small number of advance copies issued prior to the regular publication.

[10], xxiii, 479 pages.

Edition + Condition: Minor edge wear, else a fine copy. This copy has a letter "J" written in ink on the first page, suggesting that it might have been a "lettered" issue.

Publication: Springfield, PA: Gauntlet Press, 2001.
